Canada has announced that it will receive 30,000 new applications for the Parents and Grandparents Program in 2021.
With 10,000 being delayed from 2020 due to COVID-19, the number of applications received will reach 40,000 this year.
A
new round of invitations to apply will be sent out in two weeks
beginning September 20, 2021, with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
Canada (IRCC) selecting from among those who submitted an interest in
the sponsor form in the Fall 2020.
Candidates who have obtained
ITA have 60 days to submit the complete application. The time limit will
be clearly mentioned on the ITA. The ITA will be sent using the email
included in the sponsor form on interest.
Parents and Grandparents Program: Application Process
After ITA is obtained, there are two applications to be completed:
- Application to become a sponsor.
- Application for permanent residence from parents or grandparents.
Both the applications can be submitted online at the same time.
IRCC
advises the candidates not to start filling the application until they
have received ITA, so as to avoid using old forms or outdated
instructions. Application fee will not be refunded to those applying
without obtaining ITA.
IRCC says more details on how the application process works will be available in the coming weeks.
Applicants living in Quebec must follow the steps in that province to sponsor their parents and grandparents.
Citizens sponsoring their parents or grandparents must:
- The date on which he became a citizen of Canada.
- Their UCI or Client ID number.
Both are on the back of the citizenship certificate.

The candidate may also have to pay a fee to a third party for:

The following documents are not required to be submitted with the application but will be requested during processing:

- Police certificates are required for people being sponsored and for every family member who is 18 years of age or older who is not already a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. They are valid for one year from the date of issue.
Biometrics.
- When the biometrics fee is paid, the family members receive a letter asking them to give their biometrics. They have 30 days to do so at the nearest collection point.
- IRCC has special measures in place for biometrics collection due to COVID-19.

Candidates should inform IRCC if any of the following apply to them during processing:
- Birth or adoption of children.
- marriage or divorce.
- Death of the applicant or dependent.
